Overall Thoughts
First, I know that Tom has been a
hypnotist/hypnotherapist for a long time. He runs
two private practices. One in Woburn MA and the
other in Salem NH. He is not only a member of the National
Guild of Hypnotists, but also serves on their advisory board.
I believe that "longevity" in the hypnosis industry accounts for a lot. Like a doctor...if you don't perform well, you lose clients and word of mouth spreads. Before you know it...you're looking at a different profession. The fact that Tom has been a practicing hypnotist for many years means that he's doing a great job!
Tom's program is a 4 CD set that is very reasonably priced. He has actually "lowered" his price on his programs vs. last year. Two of the CD's you receive are the actually hypnosis sessions. A third CD is called "End Bad Habits" and the fourth CD is called, "Breezy Desert Night". The "End Bad Habits" CD is supposed to help reduce stress & tension, increase confidence and strengthen your belief system. The "Breezy Desert Night" CD was just nature sounds that are supposed to help you drift off to sleep. The "bonus" CD's are a nice gesture, but I didn't get too much from them.
Now for the two actual hypnosis CD's. It would be wrong for me to sit here and tell you that Tom's CD's are better or worse than the others because quite frankly...what may work well for one person, might not work that well for the next person. I'm from the south & Tom has a strong northern accent. For me, I found myself listening to his accent instead of relaxing. On the other hand, someone from the northeast probably wouldn't even notice an accent. My point is, two people may have totally different reactions to a program like this. I hope to be able to add a short audio clip from the CD so that you can listen for yourself.
The instructions are to listen to CD1 the first day, CD2 the second, CD1 the third day and so on, for at least 21 days. Continue listening even after you begin seeing the positive changes.
The inductions on the CD's take up a good part of the recordings, (about 14 minutes of 24 minute CD's), but thats important. The induction is the part that actually leads you into the hypnotic state, so you want to spend ample time on this. Tom's inductions are unique. As he speaks, you will also hear background sounds and reinforcing words being spoken. It's a pretty cool combination that is, well...quite hypnotic! One thing I did notice with headphones on, is that you can hear very faint voices in the background that I found myself trying to listen to. A little distracting to me personally. I'm not sure if these were supposed to be on the recording or not?
Tom's style on these hypnosis CD's is to use a combination of positive thoughts and intentions as well as some "aversion therapy". There are some people in the hypnosis field that don't agree with using aversion therapy. Does this type of therapy work? Yes...but if used improperly, it could have some nasty side effects.
This audio program isn't bad in my opinion, and the least expensive of those I intend to review. I feel that Mr. Nicoli's real strengths are in his weight loss and a few of his other specialty programs. He has some pretty impressive credentials in weight loss and has been featured in some magazines and even on an episode of Dateline NBC. I don't believe this program is quite as thorough as I would want or like to have. Many people fear giving up smoking because they believe that they will gain a lot of weight, so most hypnotists will address this in their smoking programs. Tom briefly touches on this in his CD's, but very little. I would have anticipated him to cover weight gain more since he is very well respected when it comes to hypnosis for weight loss?
The program is only available on CD and is not downloadable as an MP3. I think if it were downloadable, that would make it more attractive.
Personally...if I'm shelling out my hard earned money on something as important as quitting smoking, I'm probably going to look at one of the other programs. If you're on a tight budget and something in the $65 range is all you can afford, you"ll probably get some benefit from this.
